Wondering if you need to get your air ducts cleaned?

Here are a few ideas to help you determine if you need them cleaned.

  1. Have they ever been cleaned?   If not its time to get it done.   If they have been cleaned, has it been longer than 3-4 years since the last cleaning?   If that's the case its time to get it done.
  2. Remove your air filter.   If it hasn't been changed in a long time and its extremely dirty, that is another good sign its time to get your air ducts cleaned.
  3. Find the main return vent in your home and take it off the wall.   Then get a flashlight and mirror and take a look inside, if you see any buildup its time to get your air ducts cleaned.
  4. If you see any dust on your supply registers or anything on the walls from your supply registers then you are way overdue for an air duct cleaning, as typically most of the buildup occurs in the return vents.   If the supplies are visibly dirty then you must call a NJ Air Duct Cleaning Company such as Duct Dudes for an appointment.
Here's an example of a dirty return:

Does Duct Cleaning Help Allergies?

Allergists Encourage Duct Cleaning

An allergy sufferer doesn’t have to go far to learn the benefits of air duct cleaning. A quick trip to the local allergy clinic and they discover that, among other things (like mattress cleaning, and freezing pillows, etc), duct cleaning ranks high on the list of allergy cleaning or allergy proofing a house.

Don’t Stop at Just Duct Cleaning

There are many other steps you can take to “Allergy-Proof” your home. Duct Cleaning is only one step, here are a few more ideas:

  • Hire a mattress cleaning company – dust mites feed on dead skin and perspiration (sorry, it needed to be said).
  • Purchase mattress encasements – prevent dust mites from getting into the mattress.
  • Clean the drapes, carpet and upholstery – the mattress cleaning people should be able to advise you.
  • Get an air purifier – air purifiers have come a long way in eliminating airborne allergens.
  • Freeze your pillow and children’s plush toys – what’s living, won’t be for long.
