Here are a few ideas to help you determine if you need them cleaned.
- Have they ever been cleaned? If not its time to get it done. If they have been cleaned, has it been longer than 3-4 years since the last cleaning? If that's the case its time to get it done.
- Remove your air filter. If it hasn't been changed in a long time and its extremely dirty, that is another good sign its time to get your air ducts cleaned.
- Find the main return vent in your home and take it off the wall. Then get a flashlight and mirror and take a look inside, if you see any buildup its time to get your air ducts cleaned.
- If you see any dust on your supply registers or anything on the walls from your supply registers then you are way overdue for an air duct cleaning, as typically most of the buildup occurs in the return vents.
